There's a possibility that Android M will not be released on any device before the third quarter of 2015.

Phone Arena reported that the official release will most likely be in August or September this year. Google Nexus devices will most likely be the first devices to acquire the software when it becomes available.

In a recent tweet, Jeff Gordon, Senior Global Online Communications Manager of HTC, announced that the One M9 and One M9+ will be receiving the Android M update soon. Gordon added that the update will also be available on other HTC devices.

Android Pit speculated that other brands are also expected to feature the Android M in their respective devices, such as Samsung, LG and Sony. The flagship models of these brands may get the update in late December or early January, Phone Arena added.

Google made the official announcement on May 28, during the recently concluded Google I/O event, that the Android M will be rolling out soon. According to the company, Android M will be the most powerful release ever and will provide hundreds of enhancements. The Android M will emphasize user experience more, compared to making big user interface design changes. At I/O 2015, Google announced that there will be adjustments to app permissions. Android M will have its own developer preview ready and users are expected to have less trouble with permission requests. App permissions are allowed only once and not every time the user installs an app. Users may also revoke a permission granted later via the menu in the settings.

Google Now will also be one of the major improvements to be applied on Android M. It is a digital assistant service, which will help understand the user context better, allowing Google Now to perform smart functions such as setting reminders and suggesting apps. Android M will also feature Android Pay, which has a similar function to Apple Pay, so users may now make mobile payments. The update will also introduce native support for fingerprint scanners, which will also complement mobile payment services. Battery life will also improve significantly with Android M. A special mode called "Dozing" will be featured which will activate when the device's many sensors discovers that the phone is not being used. It will "doze off," prolonging battery life without hindering alarms and priority notifications.

In the meantime, Android 5.0 Lollipop continues to roll out among various devices, so users have several weeks to explore before Android M launches.
