Will the next Apple smartphone, also known as the iPhone 7, be a considerable upgrade? According to recent updates on the rumor mill, the said device may have a 12-megapixel camera - 4 megapixels above the resolution of the current model, the iPhone 6.

HIS Technology's Kevin Wang reportedly speculated that Apple will "will focus on the camera in this year's upgrade, increasing the camera resolution from 8 megapixels for the iPhone 6 to 12 megapixels for the iPhone 6S or 7," as noted by The Week.

This analysis echoed a previous claim made by securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who had established a respectable reputation in the tech industry for delivering pretty accurate forecasts on upcoming devices. He had also said that the next iPhone will likely have a 12-megapixel shooter.

"If the reports prove true, the pixel count on Apple's smartphone would move closer to that of many of its rivals. The Sony Xperia Z4, for example, has a 20.7-megapixel camera," The Week pointed out.

If indeed Apple will bump up camera specs in its next smartphone iteration, it will be an improvement that pundits will roundly praise.

"The time has come to step into 2015 and increase the level of detail," Forbes suggested last week, adding that doing so may enhance the image sharing experience as it allows users to crop or edit photos without worrying about the resulting resolution.

Further, Apple's acquisition of camera company LinX may result in better shooters in upcoming iPhone models. According to The Wall Street Journal, the company has boasted that its "tiny camera modules allow for better-quality pictures in low light and faster exposure at standard indoor conditions."

"The technology offers single-lens-reflex (SLR) camera image quality without the need for a bulky device," the finance and business news source added.

Not only that, LinX's technology can reportedly enable 3-D object modeling, face recognition, and even automatic background removal.

Could we expect to enjoy such similar features in the upcoming iPhone 7 (or iPhone 6S)?

Previous rumors have it that the next-generation smartphone to come out of Apple's doors may have Force Touch plus haptic feedback, and may even look like the iPhone 6, as noted by 9to5mac's Mark Gurman.

"To go with the new hardware, Apple has designed iOS 9 to be Force Touch-ready and is working to let developers integrate Force Touch into App Store apps," he added.

What do you think of these speculations?
