Users of the Sony Xperia Z1 on T-Mobile should start getting Android 5.0.2 beginning May 27, 2015.

Sony Mobile announced in a blog post that the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware update for the Sony Xperia Z1 (model C6916) on T-Mobile will start rolling out soon. The update will reportedly change the build number from version 14.4.B.0.56 to 14.5.B.0.236. The update can be downloaded and installed by users over-the-air (OTA), although some can also do it using the manual process through an attached FTF firmware file. Users are encouraged to comment on the update as soon as they have it.

With the new update on the Sony Xperia Z1, users should expect to have the new Material Design for a fluid and more purposeful motion, the 64-bit ART compiler that will open apps faster, Lock Screen notifications, improved battery life via Project Volta, security enhancements, the new Recent Apps page and the Quick Settings two-finger action that will present the menu regardless of the page that the user is on. Android.com also cited that many features that users can expect from the new update. Users will be able to get the right information at the right time, because the inbox will appear together with the message opened. Users can respond straight on their lockscreen. Selected persons and notifications can be allowed if the settings are adjusted. The battery saving feature can extend battery life by as much as 90 minutes. Android Smart Lock also protects the phone by pairing it with another device.

Phones Review reported that the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop has a file size of about 700 MB. The big file size will require users to have a Wi-Fi connection to download and install the update successfully. The device should also be charged to at least 50 percent or plugged in throughout the process to prevent draining it completely.

Similar to how the update was released in other models, the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop will be released in phases. Some users may not receive the notification that the update is already available until after a few days later, Phone Arena revealed. T-Mobile users may have the update available on different dates, although everyone can expect it to be available in a week's time. Users can check if they already have the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA available on their Xperia Z1 by going to Settings then About Device then System Updates then Check for Updates, iDigital Times wrote.
