Chris Pine is about to land a major role in the upcoming film "Wonder Woman."

In an exclusive report by Variety, sources indicated that the "Star Trek" actor is currently negotiating to become part of the cast of the Warner Bros. superhero movie.

Pine will be slated to take on the role of Steve Trevor, Gal Gadot's love interest in the origin story. In the comic books, Trevor was part of the United States Army as an intelligence officer during World War II. Trevor's airplane crashed on Paradise Island, the mysterious home of the Amazons. Diana Prince, the Amazonian princess, cared and helped Trevor return to full health and back to his place. Later on, Diana became Wonder Woman. Gadot will star as Diana Prince.

Variety stated that there were previous rumors that Scott Eastwood already got the part of Trevor, but sources said that Eastwood was given the option to try to land the part of Trevor or to sign and have a guaranteed supporting spot in "Suicide Squad". Eastwood allegedly chose the latter.

Warner Bros. also tested other potential actors but subsequently decided to give a direct offer to more familiar actors. The executive producers and Gal Gadot herself liked Pine for the role. Warner Bros. did not comment on Pine's addition to the cast.

The script was written by Jason Fuchs, while Patty Jenkins recently replaced Michelle MacLaren as director due to creative differences, Hollywood Reporter revealed. Charles Roven will serve as executive producer. Director Zack Snyder will also function as producer. The DC Comics for Atlas Entertainment movie is set to launch in 2017.

Cinema Blend wrote that Pine is best known for his role in "Star Trek" as Captain James T. Kirk. Pine is repped by CAA, John Carrabino Management and attorney Michael Gendler. The actor is filming the thriller "Comancheria" at present and will immediately move on to film "Star Trek 3". Pine will also appear in "Z for Zacharia" and the drama "The Finest Hours" with Ben Foster and Eric Bana.

There are rumors that the DC Cinematic Universe will heavily involve the "New 52" run, so fans may be seeing a lot of Trevor on screen. Trevor is also linked to Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, in "Suicide Squad". "Wonder Woman" will also have a key role in the upcoming film by Zack Snyder, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", which will launch in March 2016.
