Could the next iPod Touch be a true iPhone doppelganger?

Rumors circulating recently say that the 6th generation mobile PDA may be "a fusion of the latest iPhones and the iPod Touch 5th Generation," CrossMap speculated.

"The upcoming 'iPod Touch 6th Generation' is believed to sport a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and Siri," the site went on to say. "It is also believed that the upcoming 'iPod Touch 6th Generation' will sport the upcoming A9 processor and the upcoming iOS 9."

"The upcoming 'iPod Touch 6th Generation' will be available in two variants which is the 4.7-inch screen and the 5.5- inch screen. It is also believed that the 'iPod Touch 6th Generation' will sport a storage size ranging from 16GB to 128 GB," CrossMap shared.

The upcoming device will also reportedly be waterproof and be equipped with an 8MP rear camera and a 1.5MP front-facing camera.

Christian Today noted that iPod Touch 5, the last iteration, turned in disappointing sales figures as "most of its features have been rendered a repetition of what the iPhone already has to offer." As such, observers thought it would be the last of its kind that Apple would shove out of its doors. However, if the rumors are true, it appears that their speculations are wrong. Apple reportedly isn't giving up and will be delivering yet another model that will also be installed with iOS9 out of the box and even be available in six colors: silver, pink, red, blue, space gray and yellow.

"The iPod Touch 6G could play somewhere along the lines of $299 to $399, something that could vary on the storage capacity (32GB or 64GB)," the site went on to note.

With all those features, it does sound as if the upcoming iPod Touch is like an iPhone that could not send messages or enable users to make calls. Will this comparison entice appealing sales revenues when it does get released?

"Interest in the iPod touch 2015 release is still strong from parents looking for an Apple device for their kids who aren't old enough for a cell phone yet, but who want top play games that run on the iPhone," GottaBeMobile said in response to such a question.

"Although the iPad mini fills this gap to some degree, an iPod touch 2015 release is something that could reverse the decline in iPod sales and it could tie in with Apple's new Beats Music streaming service that we expect to see later this year," it also added.

The iPhone maker has not confirmed these speculations yet, although it's possible that it may talk about the said device in the coming WWDC 2015.
