With his recent victory in the boxing ring, is Mexico's Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez ready to face his next opponent? After a rumored face to face with Miguel Cotto this coming September, will the Mexican boxer's next fight be against Gennady Golovkin?

The young and promising Mexican fighter won against James Kirkland last May 9 with more than 30,000 boxing fans watching in the arena. ESPN reports that Canelo was able to knock out Kirkland via a third round KO.

Being one of Mexico's most popular fighters, he did not disappoint when he went for a brutal knockout for the first fight under his HBO exclusive contract. Alvarez was extremely proud of his achievement.

"I knew that James is a strong fighter, but he did surprise me with his aggressiveness in the first and second rounds. But once I dropped him the first time, I knew I had him," Alvarez said after his victory. "I'm happy about the win. The result was what I expected."

Many boxing experts remarked that the Alvarez-Kirkland fight was the kind of boxing match that makes viewers forget about the underwhelming Mayweather-Pacquiao fight of the century.

"This is exactly what needed to happen. Mayweather-Pacquiao -- people will forget. Styles make fights, and when Kirkland is ready, he will walk through anyone, but Canelo was ready, too. He was stronger and smarter," said president of Golden Boy productions Oscar De La Hoya.

This win for Alvarez will be pivotal since it may grant him a shot to go into the ring with middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. But in the meantime, boxing fans need to wait and see the results of the Miguel Cotto and Daniel Geale match before they can set up the megafight that is likely to take place.

"We'll definitely be watching Cotto's fight very closely. Our intention is to make a superfight, Canelo with Cotto. If it doesn't work out, we'll move on to Plan B," De La Hoya mentioned.

Alvarez was open in saying that he is ready to challenge the middleweight champion.

"I will continue to fight the best fighters. That's what I do. I fight for myself and for the fans. I'm not afraid of any fighter. [Cotto] is the champion and the kind of fighter I want to fight," Alvarez said.

Apart from Cotto, it seems like Alvarez is also bound to face another boxer. In an article published by Latin Post, Gennady Golovkin who recently won against Willie Monroe Jr. said that he is ready for a match with Alvarez as well. But the question is, are the fans eager to see Alvarez in the ring with Golovkin? Take the poll and share your thoughts.
