Will the next iPhone come with Force Touch technology?

Some pundits have observed that if the Apple Watch has it, Apple's next smartphone iteration must naturally be equipped with such an innovation - a speculation that the Cupertino-based company has not confirmed yet.

"Force Touch is what Apple calls the new pressure sensitivity that it is integrating into touchscreen displays and trackpads," The Motley Fool noted. "The technology was announced first for Apple Watch, but quickly made its way into the new MacBook and MacBook Pros."

"Force Touch uses tiny electrodes around the flexible Retina display to distinguish between a light tap and a deep press, and trigger instant access to a range of contextually specific controls," Apple described in its blurb for the Apple Watch. "With Force Touch, pressing firmly on the screen brings up additional controls in apps."

Many believe that the addition of Force Touch to the next iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 6s, will boost the model's appeal and serve as a compelling upgrade.

"Force Touch is seemingly much more incremental than Apple's previous revolutionary interfaces such as the capacitive touchscreen or graphical user interface," The Motley Fool observed.

However, there is still the question of how Apple will incorporate Force Touch to the iPhone 6S as the technology's implementation in the Apple Watch is different to that in the Macbook.

There's also the matter of possibly including smarter software that can introduce "new ways for apps to interact with Force Touch," the site went on to say.
"For now, Apple will have its work cut out marketing Force Touch as a headline selling feature of the iPhone 6s," The Motley Fool added.

In addition, Apple is said to be boosting the iPhone 6S' camera to 12 megapixels and improving gesture control support, plus another microphone near the speaker, TechRadar said.

Further, rumors have suggested that the upcoming smartphone may be launched late in July this year - a date that Apple is not used to using in launching its products.

According to Forbes' Gordon Kelly, the alleged early unveiling is down to the "higher than expected yields of key components - something usually cited as a challenge most years." However, this left Kelly doubtful whether Apple would go out of its normal timeframe and release this year's products earlier.

"Apple is famed for doing only what needs to be done and with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sales still rampaging along it would seem pointless to kill them off early and reduce the time the company has to polish its successors," Kelly speculated.
