There are rumors that the Samsung Galaxy A8 (SM-A800) is already in the works and its features might include a fingerprint sensor.

The first news about the Samsung Galaxy A8 model surfaced in March 2015, when people discovered that Samsung apparently applied for trademarks for the Galaxy A6, A8 and A9. Trusted Reviews cited that it was not yet confirmed where the fingerprint scanner will be placed, although it will most likely be within the home button, similar to the Galaxy S6.

GSM Arena revealed that the A8 is the successor of the Galaxy A7 which was released earlier in 2015. The A8 is said to become available in different regions in Asia and Europe, although there were previous reports that it will be exclusive in China. Based on rumors, the upcoming device will most likely feature a fingerprint sensor, a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset and 2 GB of RAM. Phone Arena stated that the processor is an upper mid-range SoC that features four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores, clocked at 1.7 GHz. There are also four more ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.0 GHz, plus an Adreno 405 GPU.

Phone Arena noted in another article that the smartphone is also said to include a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, 16 GB of internal memory, 4G LTE support and a 3050 mAh battery. The handset will be 5.9 mm thick and operate on the TouchWiz UX based on the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The A8 will be the latest addition to the Galaxy A series, which has been successful among people looking for mid-range devices. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6, the A8 may also include a touch-based sensor and offer a similar themes support that is already present in the company's flagship units. The handset will reportedly have a metal edge similar to others in the A line.

In another article by Sam Mobile, the Galaxy A8 will be the largest Galaxy A smartphone so far, with its 5.7-inch display. The phone will measure 157.7 mm x 76.7 mm x 5.9 mm and weigh 140 grams. Currently, the Galaxy A7 is the thinnest Samsung smartphone, with a thickness of 6.3 mm.

No official launch date has been revealed yet, but considering how a number of devices are already showcasing the new Snapdragon 615, a pre-Christmas release for the Galaxy A8 is possible. Fans of the A series will have to wait for more confirmation in the coming weeks.
