Ruben Blades has been added to the cast of AMC's upcoming, "Fear the Walking Dead", according to Deadline.com.

The new show will serve as a companion series to the massive zombie hit series, "The Walking Dead". The upcoming series is set to run for two seasons. The critically-acclaimed Latin jazz musician will reportedly play Daniel, the father of Ofelia, in the series.

Blades will be part of the regular cast of the highly-anticipated, post-apocalyptic drama that already includes Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, and Alicia Bednam Carey.

Along with Blades, Lorenzo James Henrie has also been added to join the cast as Chris. Henrie, 21, portrays the character who resents his father, Travis, played by Cliff Curtis, for breaking up with his mother, Liza, who is portrayed by Elizabeth Rodriguez, as Entertainment Weekly reported.

As a spin-off to the famed "The Walking Dead" series, "Fear the Walking Dead" is set in Los Angeles. The new series takes viewers to what the world looks like "as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in the 'Walking Dead'", ComicBook.com reported.

Entertainment Weekly caught up with series executive producer Robert Kirkman, who said that the new show will mainly tackle Madison and Travis' budding relationship. Both are school teachers, one widowed and one divorced.

Like Travis, Madison, also has children from her previous marriage, Kirkman added. Madison's daughter, Alicia, is a top-performing high school student, while her son, Nick, is a college drop out.

Kirkman also pointed out that unlike most couple portrayed on various TV shows, these two main characters are "very much in love" with each other.

"One of the things that really excite me about this show is the fact that this is a show about two people who are a team, and they do back each other up," Kirkman added.

Production for the upcoming series is currently underway in Vancouver, Canada.

Prior to joining the cast of the upcoming zombie series, the Panamanian music icon also received a Grammy Award early this January of 2015 for his album "Tangos". Reuters also reported that Blades has expressed his bid to possibly run as president of Panama by 2019.

The Panamanian singer-actor previously run as president of Panama way back in 1994.

Blades, as Reuters reported, is also a lawyer. He earned his master's degree at Harvard University.
