It has been a while since Apple Inc. last released a new Apple iPod Touch, spurring rumors that a 6th generation version of the device might already be in the works.

VCPost claimed that Apple Inc. will release the iPod Touch 6th Generation in the fall of 2015. The device will allegedly undergo significant improvements, along with complete iPhone features. Because the iPod Touch 5 failed to impress buyers with its limited features, Apple Inc. is reportedly going to present a revamped model that will combine the features of the iPhone 6s.

Another VCPost report noted that Apple might not hold a separate media event solely for the iPod Touch 6, so a press release might be a more viable option to introduce and promote the new device. Crossmap shared that Apple is set to host the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) from June 8 to June 12. It also might be the ideal event for the company to finally launch the iPod Touch 6.

Reportedly, the next iPod Touch will have a powerful A9 microprocessor and will run on a new iOS 8 or iOS 9. It will also have Apple Pay, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, an improved Siri and is rumored to feature two screen sizes, a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina display. The media player will also feature 1 GB RAM, with an expandable memory via a microSD up to 128 GB. The 6th generation will also be compatible with the upcoming Apple Watch. Crossmap added that the battery life of the new device will also be better compared to its predecessor. There will be six colors available, as well, namely blue, red, yellow, pink, silver and space gray. Prices will most likely start at $250.

Mac Rumors reported that the refreshed iPod 6 will probably present a similar design as its predecessor, which was released two and a half years ago but there might be several enhancements introduced into the camera. The iPod Touch 5th Generation presented an ultra-thin design, a lightning connector and an A5 processor. The site also noted that the iPod Touch sales declined because of Apple Inc.'s other feature-packed products like the iPad, the Mac and the iPhone.

The revamped model with iPhone 6 features will greatly help in renewing the interest of users in the portable media player. Increased storage space, FaceTime and iSight cameras, Apple Pay support, Touch ID and locked down NFC functions would make the new product more interactive and functional. There might also be Beats-related features, in line with Apple's acquisition of the company earlier in 2014, Mac Rumors added.
