Is Bilbo "The Hobbit" Baggins about to enter the Marvel Universe?
Marvel confirmed that Martin Freeman, who starred in "The Hobbit" film franchise, has joined the stellar cast of "Captain America: Civil War". This news may come as a surprise for fans of the actor and the Marvel superhero considering Freeman's cinematic resume.
"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," remarked Kevin Feige, producer of the upcoming "Captain America" sequel. ""We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
No further details about Freeman's role has been revealed, however. What is definite is that the British actor's addition to the film project will boost the already star-packed cast, which consist of Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Daniel Bruhl, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, and Chadwick Boseman, Time noted. All these are on top of the likely inclusion of Spider-Man in the superhero roll call.
In the wake of this announcement, it won't be surprising if the Web will be deluged by speculations on Freeman's role. Will he be appearing only in one installment or will "Captain America: Civil War" be the start of many more appearances in the Marvel Universe? After all, he's already done with "The Hobbit" trilogy and may be up for another set of installments that evoke a similar adventurous theme. What do you think?
In other news, it's been reported that the upcoming "Captain America" follow up would not have been possible without Downey's involvement. He had not signed up for "Iron Man 4" and seemed to be about to hang up his Marvel superhero hat when the filmmakers managed to wrangle just one more movie from the actor.
"They said to me, 'If we have you, we can do this, or Cap 3 has to be something else. It's nice to feel needed," RDJ was quoted by ScreenRant as saying. "And at this point it's about helping each other, too."
"I look at it as a competition and I go, 'Wow, maybe if these two franchises teamed up and I can take even a lesser position, with people I like and directors I respect, maybe we can keep things bumping along," he explained.
Fans have also Feige to thank for giving something that would appeal to RDJ and get him to say yes to just one more Marvel flick, the site said.
