Looks like the casting for the reboot of the 1960 film "The Magnificent Seven" is coming along nicely. The latest updates have it that "G.I. Joe's" Byung-hun Lee will be joining Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D'Onofrio in the upcoming movie. Jason Momoa ("Game of Thrones") has also reportedly been in talks to join the said cast, reportedly as one of the villains.

"Byung-hun Lee is getting the role of Billy Rocks, and the South Korean star joins the Antoine Fuqua-directed ensemble cast," Deadline reported. Haley Bennett, Luke Grimes, and Wagner Moura will also star in the movie.

The original film was essentially a remake of "Seven Samurai," which is considered one of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's cinematic masterpieces. The Western adaptation starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and Robert Vaughn, /FILM noted.

Originally, the movie's story revolves around a village enlisting the assistance of seven fighters to fend off bandits. However, in the upcoming film, the story won't be following the original to the letter and will be tweaked, based on the script Nic Pizzolatto and John Lee Hancock turned in.

"The new Magnificent Seven takes place shortly after the Civil War, in a town threatened by a ruthless gold mining baron and his thugs," /FILM said. "The widow (Bennett) of one of their victims decides she's had enough of these thugs, so she hires a bounty hunter (Washington), who rounds up six more gunslingers to help defend the town."

Currently, no confirmation has been made regarding the casting of the flick's main baddie. The future Aquaman's inclusion in the movie has not yet been officially confirmed, after all.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pratt will play a "magician turned gambler," while D'Onofrio will portray "a mountain man with an unsavory past that includes killing Native Americans." Moura is said to be a "a caballero with a bounty on his head," while Hawke is a sharpshooter who deserted a war. Lee is said to be cast as a "former indentured servant who is quite handy with a sai."

Production will reportedly begin late in May this year, with the final cut arriving in theaters on January 13, 2017.

What do you think about Momoa playing the villain? Such a character is the opposite of the high-profile, DC Comics superhero role he nabbed last year, which could help him retain a versatile image that prevents him from being typecast as a hero or bad guy.
