Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Arriving Later This Month? Specs, Features, Rumors & Everything We Know So Far

Although Microsoft did not announce the coming of the Surface Pro 4 at BUILD 2015 as expected, there are rumors that the company will finally unveil the device in May 2015.

Christian Times reported that there are new speculations that Microsoft may actually launch the Surface Pro 4 on May 20, 2015. Slash Gear revealed that it received information from an anonymous source that the 2-in-1 device will be introduced at a special Microsoft even in the middle of May, which is actually consistent with the announcement of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, on May 20, 2014.

Geek Snack noted that the Surface Pro 3 was deemed as the best convertible Windows device available on the market. That said, it's not a surprise that people have high expectations for its successor, as well. Sources are very confident that Microsoft will decide to introduce the Surface Pro 4 before Windows 10 will be released to the public. There is no confirmed official release date for Windows 10 yet, but Microsoft is reportedly setting a deadline for August this year. Windows 10 for phones is also expected to launch at the same time. Given this information, it is safe to say that the Surface Pro 4 will most likely showcase the latest OS.

There are several articles on the Internet that assume Microsoft will improve the processing power, screen resolution and the camera for the new device. It is likely that there will also be a new stylus after Microsoft recently bought N-Trig, Geek Snack added.

The Surface Pro 4 will most likely run on a Core i5 Broadwell CPU and not the Core M, according to Christian Times, making the device as powerful as several current laptops. The device may also feature a fanless design since Broadwell chips are said to be more efficient in dissipating heat. The Surface Pro 4 is expected to feature a 12-inch screen, similar to its predecessor. There are also rumors that the device will be offered in various display configurations.

Geek Snack added that the Microsoft Surface Pro will most likely be sold as a full set, which includes the convertible tablet featuring a magnetic keyboard or a hinge action and the stylus. There will most likely be a USB Type C port, HDMI, USB 3.0 and a microSD card reader. The price will vary depending on the CPU included. There might be Surface Pro 4 models that will still run on the Core M and will retail at $600. The more powerful models featuring i3, i5 and i7 processors may cost up to $1,700.
