Despite the underwhelming box office returns for part 2, rumors of a third "Spider-Man" installment continue to abound. Along with them are reports that Andrew Garfield won't be back to reprise his superhero role - because he was said to be "fired" from the franchise.

An email exchange among certain individuals at Sony, which was among those leaked via the infamous hacks that afflicted the company last year, revealed that Andrew snubbed an event last year at Rio de Janeiro, where Sony head honcho Kaz Hirai would appear and announce the British actor as the star of "The Amazing Spider Man 3" in a speech, Showbiz 411 said.

"Needless to say, when Garfield didn't come down for dinner, the speech was changed," the site added, saying also that the act had insulted the boss.

"I'm sure the event was successful, despite Andrew's absence. The last minute change to Kaz's speech and to the seating arrangement was manageable, but it's a slight to Kaz and the Sony hosts on the ground," one email read in the wake of Andrew's absence, which was reportedly down to the actor "feeling under the weather all day."

"Here we are about one hour away from our Gala event and Andrew decides he doesn't want to attend. He has a rather scruffy beard and he just wants to be left alone," read one of the emails regarding that Sony event snub.

"This unpleasant incident reportedly played a significant part in Garfield's ousting from the popular franchise," International Business Times said.

Could this be truly the reason Andrew's casting in the sequel is uncertain?

So far, no definite confirmation has been issued by the studio or the actor himself, although he had previously mentioned he did not receive a call that told him he's out of the franchise, CinemaBlend noted.

Sooner or later, the truth will emerge.

Further, the actor and his "Spider-Man" co-star and real-life leading lady Emma Stone had reportedly ended their relationship last month, with the actress moving back to Los Angeles in the wake of the split. A source had revealed that it was Emma who ended things with the 31-year-old as he had been "in a dark place for months," as noted by MailOnline.

Could that "dark place" be the same state Andrew was in when he snubbed the Sony chief last year?

Regarding speculations over whether "Spider-Man 3" will push through, it appears that the project has evolved to become a new film franchise that will reportedly be released on July 28, 2017, according to an update from MailOnline.
