Although the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 was nowhere in sight at the 2015 BUILD event, there are rumors that its release will finally be announced in the middle of May 2015.

Slashgear wrote that it had received reports from an anonymous source on April 30 that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will be introduced at a special event by Microsoft in May. The Surface Pro 3 was announced on May 20, 2014, and released a month later, which makes a potential May 2015 announcement for its successor all the more possible.

The publication also added that the 2-in-1 device will most likely feature a 12-inch display with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels. Second, it might run on the 5th-gen Intel Broadwell Core i-Series CPU. Third, the new model is said to be fanless but will feature small vent holes. Fourth, the battery might be smaller, without compromising running time. Finally, the Surface Pro 4 will also feature accessories, such as the current 3rd-gen Docking Station, Type Cover 3 and the new N-Trig surface pen.

According to Techradar, many features and looks that were present on the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 may be retained on the Surface Pro 4. The design and battery will largely have the same specs, so with the size of the screen, display resolution and aspect ratio. The battery life is reportedly one of the biggest improvements between the Surface Pro 3 and Pro 4, since Broadwell processors consume 30 percent less power. Users should expect about 1.5 extra hours of battery life on the new device.

Microsoft might have intentionally skipped the unveiling of the Surface Pro 4 at the 2015 BUILD conference to allow more time for the Surface Pro 3 to gain attention, Digital Trends noted. The Surface Pro 3 features 4th-gen Intel Core processors, which is a big deal in itself. Introducing the Surface Pro 4 with its new Broadwell processor and Windows 10 might immediately shift the focus away from some of its older devices. Microsoft noticeably avoided announcing its new phone models, as well, most likely for the same reason. The decision to shift its focus, however, was not made from a position of weakness, the site clarified.

The same report said that Microsoft also did not set an official release date for Windows 10, although there are rumors that the new OS will likely debut in June or July 2015. If the Surface Pro 4 indeed includes Windows 10, it will also offer the three main features, namely the new browser called Edge, Universal apps and Cortana.
