May Day is upon us, and so is a new set of games free on Xbox this month.

Microsoft announced the current crop of Games with Gold which Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners can dig their gaming skills into. One of them is "CastleStorm: Definitive Edition," described by CinemaBlend as "a cross between a brawler and tower-defense game."

"Players defend their keep and try to destroy their enemy's by using ground troops, spells and artillery," the site went on to say. "They can enhance their forces over time using currency gained through battle. The modes include single-player, co-op and competitive multiplayer."

The said free game also has two expansions, "The Warrior Queen" and "From Outcast to Savior," both of which are also included in the freebie offering.

The game gained mostly positive reviews, with one noting that the title is "still a complete blast to play" even more than a year after its release, as noted by Metacritic. The remastered version improved what was described by some as "an already stellar package."

"Addictive and entertaining, CastleStorm's mix of fairytale whimsy and challenging strategy - as well as its mishmash of play styles - makes it a solid and enticing prospect whatever the platform," said one reviewer on the site.

For Xbox 360 users, "Mafia II" and "F1 2013" are the games that can be enjoyed free of charge. The former is, as Xbox Wire noted, "a third-person action game that immerses players in the dark and unforgiving world of the Mafia in the 1940's and 50's" - perfect for those partial to the vintage and the noir. Released back in 2010, the game has been lauded for its storytelling and is engaging enough to egg you on to the next challenge so you know how the story is going to pan out.

"F1 2013" is a great foil for those with a need for speed, at least where virtual, open-wheel racing is concerned. Gamespot described this game as one that "takes you on a nostalgia trip into the history of Formula One, while compelling new modes and subtle improvements layer atop a familiar, but winning formula."

Sounds like these games are oldies but definite goodies.

Do know that all three games are available only for a limited time. You can download "CastleStorm: Definitive Edition" from May 1-31, while "Mafia II" can be had only within May 1-15. "F1 2013" may be downloaded anytime from May 16 to 31 only.

Which ones will you be trying out this month?
