Let us make it clear that it may actually take a bit more than just $349 to get a new gold Apple Watch. Based on Casey Neistat's DIY tip on getting the premium version of Apple's latest product, you'll have to spend an extra $10 or so. For the gold spray paint, that is.

"YouTuber Casey Neistat shows how easy it is to make your own gold Apple Watch with just a little care and a steady hand," Mashable said. "The end result may not fool anyone who looks at your wrist too closely, but at a glance, Neistat's gold-sprayed aluminum Apple Watch looks pretty sweet."

What Neistat basically did was carefully take off the protective plastic covering the face of the watch, removed the straps with the help of a blade cutter, and taped the device's front display and circular back cover. He then carefully cut out the excess tape off with the blade by tracing the outlines of the front and the back portions being covered. He then proceeded to spray the device gold, spritzing in short bursts to ensure an even application.

When he was done, the watch looked no different from the $10,000 models, unless, perhaps, if you look at it up close.

Will Apple Watch owners wanting a golden version actually do the same thing with their entry-level models? Would you dare do this one to yours?

The Apple Watch, being considered expensive and coveted at the same time, have generated a number of parodies and laughs from social media users and comedians.

USA Today reported on the numerous DIY parodies on the said product, with most of them involving a whole apple fruit taped to the wrist. One clever version even involved a watch carved out from an apple. Even talk show host Conan O'Brien has poked fun at the wearable, showing his audience a cheaper version of the said device, which he had dubbed the Apple Pocketwatch.

"You might wonder what you have to do to secure one of these precious items," CNET said about O'Brien's Pocketwatch. "Well, you just mail your iPhone and $259 to Apple. And then wait."

"What comes back to you at a clip is a feat of such magnetic, magical, revolutionary engineering that you will simply sit back, marvel and wonder what time it is," the site added.

In other news, knockoffs of the Apple Watch have begun appearing on Alibaba since last month, featuring "similar-styled straps and identical user interface graphics to Apple's forthcoming wearable," BBC reported.

"They are being offered for about 250 yuan ($40; £26.50) - a fraction of the 2,588 yuan that Apple will charge for its smartwatch in China," the news source pointed out.

Will Apple go after the counterfeiters? Time will tell.
