The 2015 White House Correspondents Dinner took place on April 25 in Washington, featuring several jokes by President Barack Obama and other interesting highlights.
Yahoo reported the 2015 White House Correspondents Dinner was a collaborative effort by the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA), C-Span and the Washington Hilton. The event hosted over 2,600 guests at the Washington Hilton. There was also a pre-party for 4,000 guests. C-SPAN broadcast the WHCA dinner live.
The dinner helps raise funds for the journalism scholarships and awards. There were several familiar faces at the big event, although majority of prospective Republican candidates and potential Obama successors decided to pass. There were those who preferred to meet future donors and supporters in Las Vegas and Des Moines, Iowa, based on a report by Fox News.
NPR.org reported that President Obama delivered several funny lines, many of which were well-received by those in attendance and even more by social media users.
Obama said that he was asked, "Do you have a bucket list?" He replied, "I say, well I have something that rhymes with bucket. Bucket! Bucket!"
Some of his other laughable quips, as seen in a YouTube video, included:
"People say I'm arrogant and aloof. Some people are so dumb."
Referring to Hillary Clinton, he said, "The economy's gotten so bad for some people. I had a friend, just a few weeks ago, she was making millions of dollars a year, and now she's living out of a van in Iowa."
About the 2016 GOP Field, the President said, "The Koch brothers think they need to spend a billion dollars to get folks to like one of these people. I raised a lot ... but my middle name is Hussein."
Obama also insert some of his real accomplishments, such as providing insurance and health coverage to more Americans in the past years.
Deadline reported that Cecily Strong tried her best to be as funny as Obama but raised some eyebrows. Strong admitted that it was scary to follow Obama talk.
One of her bad jokes, as seen in the Deadline video, included:
"I do need to say something here. Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I'm going to go easy on you people. I'm going to go easy on you because my brain is smaller."
"It is great to be here at the Washington Hilton - is something a prostitute might say to a congressman."
"Man, if these walls could talk, they'd probably say 'Clean me'".
She proceeded to hit the media with successfully funny lines.
