When news of Spider-Man joining the Marvel universe broke, comic book fans started getting restless, anxious about the whens, whos, and whats of the said mashup. However, the web slinger won't be starring in a titular role, a la "Batman vs. Superman," in a Marvel film just yet. Instead, he'll be featured in the third Captain America installment - "Captain America: Civil War."

It's also been understood that Andrew Garfield won't reprise his role in the said flick, which means that a new face will be donning the red-and-blue spandex suit.

Recently, The Wrap said that Sony Pictures and Marvel have come up with a list of "Spider-Man" potentials and have whittled the roster to a select few actors, such as Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, and Liam James.

"Sony is preparing to make test offers to several young stars next week, with a decision expected in the next 2-3 weeks, though a deal may take longer to hammer out," the entertainment news source explained. "To be clear, none of the five actors above have test offers, but multiple individuals with knowledge of the situation have confirmed they are strong contenders who are definitely in the mix as of right now, and the group paints a picture of the kind of actor the studios want."

Currently, Marvel and Sony has not confirmed or commented on the alleged list.

/Film added that the said role "wouldn't need to be filled until June when the actor would likely appear as a cameo in 'Captain America: Civil War.'"

It is not clear whether the same actor, whoever will be picked for the role, will be playing the superhero in a new standalone film franchise. It is worth noting that all the actors in the shortlist can play high-school adolescents - a telling clue considering that the new "Spider-Man" flick will reportedly focus on Spidey's teenage life.

Although details about the third "Captain America" movie are just starting to emerge, Robert Downey Jr. recently added teased some information about the film during an interview with David Letterman, ComicBook said.

"Well, it's called Civil War," said the actor, who plays Iron Man in the current "Avengers" installment. "And there was a strain of comics where Captain America and Iron Man, they went on different sides, and they fought each other."

When asked whether he has done the film, Robert said he will "go start shooting that one in a couple weeks."

He also affirmed that Spider-Man will also appearing in the movie, and that the bigwigs are "looking to cast a new Spider-Man."

So, who do you think should be picked as Spider-Man?
