"Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" is slated to release sometime in 2017, but it will not be divided into two separate films.

Exhibitor Relations announced via Twitter, "Listen up, shanks-MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE drops February 17, 2017. And no, it won't be split into 2 parts. Good that."

"The Death Cure" will be the third film adaptation of the "Maze Runner" series, based on novels written by James Dasher. The movie is produced by 20th Century Fox and directed by Wes Ball. The first movie was launched in September 2014, starring Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario and Ki Hong Lee, who will reprise their roles. "Maze Runner 2: Scorch Trials" was announced to release on September 18, 2015.

Based on a report by Digital Spy in October last year, Dasher already provided hints about the movie's direction. He said, "I think three is the number; beginning, middle, end, that's it. Four? I think there's something off about four. For me, if I have any say in it, there's three movies basically."

He added, "We're not going to [split a book in two], no way. I think three movies is the right number, Star Wars!"

On Facebook, the author also provided clues as to what fans can expect in the next installment and why it will be worth the wait.

Dasher wrote, "As you can probably tell, there's a little bit of 'Death Cure' incorporated into the second movie. Movies are a different breed. It's more like the 2nd and 3rd books were put in a blender and poured out into what made best sense for the big screen. But it's all there.

"I hope you can trust us. And [director] Wes Ball. I really think he's earned it. You guys will LOVE this movie. You will love it."

Screen Rant reported that there are still discussions regarding the pros and cons of splitting the third film into two. There are fans who believe that the trilogy should stay consistent with the format and only feature three films. Others also preferred four films so they can enjoy the story further. Dividing the third movie into two will mean entertaining viewers more and providing more information from the novels.

"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" was first published on October 11, 2011 while "Prequel: The Kill Order", published in 2012, is the next novel in the series. There is still no news when production will begin for the third film and who will be part of the cast.
