The upcoming "Avengers" movie isn't the only Marvel superhero flick to get excited about this year. There's also "Fantastic Four," which stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell. And a new trailer teasing the movie was released just recently.

"Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), the nearly three-minute trailer reveals the origins story of four explorers who survive an inter-dimensional travel mission and return to Earth each with a separate super power," Time said. "Later in the trailer, the ominous hooded villain, Doctor Doom, is revealed between seconds of high-velocity action."

The clip begins with Dr. Storm, as played by Reg E. Cathey, being asked to deliver on the investment into the scientific projects that cost an eye-watering amount of money. He then assures investors that things will be better with the involvement of Reed Richards (Teller), who "knows answers to questions we don't even know to ask yet," MailOnline quoted him as saying.

Then, Sue Storm (Mara), Dr. Storm's daughter, then appeared on screen and asked Richards, "You want to be famous?" Richards replied, "I just want my work to make a difference."

Johnny Storm, played by Jordan, is the next character to be introduced, described as someone who "doesn't take orders well."

Ben Grimm (Bell) steps into the picture as he told Richards not to let anyone at the lab get in the way of his work.

A few seconds later, a group that included the four titular characters enter a machine designed for inter-dimensional travel and make a landing at some grim, rocky place. However, things took a turn for the worse as the scientists eventually face imminent death.

As what fans already expect, only four survived the mission, all of them having unusual physical capabilities.

"The foursome are finally revealed as their iconic alter egos: The Invisible Woman (Kate), The Human Torch (Michael), Mr. Fantastic (Miles), and The Thing (Jamie)," MailOnline said.

The subsequent scenes then show all four exhibiting their new abilities and acting as a team, as well as facing their main nemesis, Dr. Doom (Toby Kebbell).

It can be recalled that "Fantastic Four" had 2 previous movie adaptations. However, this year's reboot shows a decidedly "darker, grittier" Fantastic Four, Mashable pointed out.

In a previous interview, screenwriter Simon Kinberg emphasized that "Fantastic Four" has "always been about a family" and that the "defining thing is the surrogate family," he told Collider.

"That's something we really spent a long time talking about and putting into the film. I think that will differentiate us as well from all of the different superheroes and superhero groups out there," Kinberg went on to explain.

This aspect is most evident in the trailer when Dr. Storm worried about what happened to his "children" in the wake of the seemingly failed inter-dimensional mission.

We'll soon learn whether "Fantastic Four" perfectly captured that family spirit on August 7.
