The official plot of the upcoming "Star Wars: Rogue One" has been revealed.

Last week, fans were able to get bits of information about the upcoming "Star Wars Episode 7: Force Awakens" and game "Star Wars: Battlefront." But it didn't end there. During the Stars Wars Celebration, Gareth Edwards also teased fans about the 2016 movie "Star Wars: Rogue One."

The Verge reported that "Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards has revealed that the upcoming film will happen between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope."

"It comes down to a group of individuals who don't have magical powers that have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy," the Verge quoted Edwards.

During the event, Edwards revealed that the idea behind "Rogue One" came from John Knoll, according to Cinema Blend. Producer Kathleen Kennedy was then informed about it and approved it.

To date, the only actress revealed to be in the ucpming movie's cast list is "Theory of Everything" star Felicity Jones, noted by The Guardian. Jones' character, according to the report, would "not just be a stoic soldier, but a complex, fully rounded human."

"We wanted to see fear, warmth, all of those aspects that everybody has... and Jones embodies the complete package," Edwards was cited in the report saying.

Screen Rant said in a separate report that Tatiana Maslany is also set to be one of the movie's major roles. It also said that the script for this movie is "already in place" but is still being revised by Chris Weitz.

Here is a part of the official Star Wars statement: "'Rogue One' is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz...The idea for the story of Rogue One came from John Knoll, an Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. He will executive produce along with Simon Emanuel and Jason McGatlin. Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To are on board to produce and John Swartz will co-produce. The film starts shooting this summer in London and is due for release on December 16, 2016."
