Even before the vibrant-colored Lilly Pulitzer line especially done for a collaboration with Target was even released, many fans of the brand waited eagerly online in the hopes of getting some pieces from the highly-anticipated line. However, they were unable to get anything via Target.com as the site was inaccessible for 15 minutes "to ensure that all products were being rolled out as efficiently as possible," according to Mashable.

In response to this, the retail company's rep Joshua Thomas said that the site was never shut down and that all the products available online were pretty much sold out.

"It's not going to be restocked," he went on to say. "It's never our goal to sell out in a day; our goal in stores [is] from four to six weeks. It's definitely a limited-time run. We do not restock or replenish. It really is a 'Get it now before it's gone' type sale. Shop early, shop often."

This unfortunate turn-of-event has certainly irritated frustrated shoppers eager to get their hands on items branded with the Queen of Prep's unmistakable colors and style.

To give you an idea of the mad rush for the Lilly Pulitzer for Target line, let this shopper recount her experience:

"I drove 1.5 hours to go," Georgia resident Emilee Anderson explained to Mashable. "[I] got there and [the] racks were already down as if it never happened. I went to [the] Evans location. People were taking the boxes before employees could unload them. It was gone in a minute, 27 seconds."

Meanwhile, USA Today recalled that such a shopping rush was similar to a "retail meltdown four years ago when Target released another signature product line from Italian luxury knitwear designer Missoni."

"Target's website crashed repeatedly and in-store shoppers were met with lines and sellouts," the news source said.

A good number of disappointed shoppers correctly predicted that those who were able to snag Lilly Pulitzer items may likely sell them on eBay for a much higher amount.

"Dresses and handbags quickly cropped up on eBay with more than 9,400 listings of Lilly Pulitzer Target products," USA Today added.

"Target often teams up with high-end designers to create limited edition fashion lines. The collections, from designers such as Alexander McQueen, Prabal Gurung (a favorite of Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge), and Jason Wu (who designed one of Michelle Obama's inaugural gowns), tend to create lots of buzz and sell out within hours," CNN said.

Regarding the disgruntled shoppers who went home empty-handed, Mashable said they can just go and buy Lilly Pulitzer items at the brand's shops, especially considering that the label's prices outside the Target collection are not that expensive.
