While fans of E.L. James' bestselling novel and soon-to-be film '50 Shades of Grey' have been busy dreaming and hoping for their favorite stars to play the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, it appears that some celebrities have been vying for the less prominent role of Elena Lincoln. 'Sex and The City' actress Kim Cattrall spoke to Australian radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O and expressed her interest in playing the "Mrs. Robinson" role.

"As far as I'm aware it's potentially between me and Uma Thurman," Cattrall said. "I think we are in minds at the moment. That's based on a lot of people's blogs and desires at the moment. As far as I know they are still writing the script so the casting is some way down the line."

The 56-year-old actress was recently featured in a poll by US Weekly for the role and came in first place with 46 percent of the votes. Other stars included in the poll were Demi Moore, Charlize Theron and Halle Berry.

Cattrall, who previously denied involvement or interest in the film, told the Belfast Telegraph that she is a fan of the erotic thriller series. "It's just been a sensation. It's truly extraordinary. Especially women on their kindles and with the way we like to whisper things!"

If selected, Catrall could possibly play opposite 'Vampire Diaries' actor Ian Somerhalder or 'White Collar' actor Matt Bomer, who are both fan picks for the role of Christian Grey. In the series, Elena Lincoln is the much-older housewife who first introduces Christian to the world of BDSM.

Casting rumors for the lead parts of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele have dominated talk among fans and media sites. Actresses Nina Dobrev (Somerhalder's girlfriend and onscreen costar in 'Vampire Diaries') and Alexis Bledel ('Gilmore Girls') have ruled recent polls by Latinos Post.

Like Cattrall said, it may be some time before fans find out who will play their favorite characters in the erotic thriller. '50 Shades of Grey' recently announced that screenwriter Kelly Marcel ('Terra Nova') had been hired as the film's screenwriter. The Universal Pictures and Focus Films movie also counts on Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti as producers.

A release date for the first film in the series, '50 Shades of Grey,' has yet to be announced.
