Phone Arena reported that the 5.1 version of the Lollipop update is now rolling out to the Nexus 5 phone, citing one of its "loyal" readers who tipped them that his device already has the update.

This is not surprising at all, considering that the same handset running the 5.1 Lollipop version was spotted at the Geekbench benchmark last month. Plus, the device, powered by "Android Lollipop MR1 (Maintenance Release 1)," which pertains to Lollipop 5.1, was already seen at the Devoxx conference in Netherlands last year.

Artem Russakovskii earlier speculated that the newer Lollipop version would indeed hit Nexus devices first, starting with the Nexus 7 device. "Here's a rumor from one of our solid sources. The Lollipop MR1 (Android 5.1) will start rolling out to Nexus devices starting with the N7 (probably 2013) this week, barring anything unexpected," Russakovskii said.

"This release is supposed to make Android buttery smooth again, which is something you may have already spotted from videos of Android One devices running it. You're going to want to install it...Google's been having some issues with battery life, which explains the delay, and unless they're already resolved, could possibly delay the rollout. But later this week is the info I have right now," added Russakovskii.

Phone Arena said Nexus 5 users can expect to receive the update via OTA. The update is 220.7MB so be sure your Internet connection is steady and your battery is at least half.

According to the screenshot of the Android 5.1 system update, the new software "improves performance and stability" and it also "fixes bugs."

Also receiving the 5.1 version is the Motorola Droid Turbo. Phone Arena said that it was Motorola software engineer Luciano Carvalho who spilled the beans about this. Carvalho reportedly said that it is "nearly impossible" for the Lollipop update to not have bugs since it is a "complex software running on a complex hardware, with thousands of different environment conditions and thousands of usage variations."

Meanwhile, Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC Americas, revealed in an HTC Uh-oh protection webcast that the Lollipop update is definitely rolling out to its One M8 and One M7 users by the end of this month.

One user specifically asked when the update would arrive on AT&T subscribers. Mackenzie said he is "not happy" with the delay which he partly attributed to "changes made with AT&T's network" and that AT&T has asked HTC to add more with the Android Lollipop.

Note that T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon have already rolled out the OS to its HTC One M8 subscribers via OTA. HTC One M7 T-Mobile users, on the other hand, reportedly received the update by the end of February.
