Will there be a PlayStation 5?

Some speculated that the PS4 is the last of its kind among the home-based gaming consoles, as "computing increasingly moves to the cloud, with processing done remotely and then streamed to home devices," International Business Times said.

However, according to Dual Shockers, Sony's Computer Entertainment executive VP Masayasu Ito said that there will be another generation coming out after the PS 4.

"I think there will be a PS5. However, I don't know what form it'll have. It could be a physical console, or it could be in the cloud," Ito was quoted as saying in an interview with the Nikkei Shinbun. "But even if the form might change, PS5 Games will be born. This is what we want."

It can be recalled that rumors of a PS5 release, allegedly projected to happen in 2020, ran wild since last year, barely a year after the PS4's release, Design&Trend said. There's also reports that the PS5 "has greater intention to work alongside the cloud than anything else" and won't even support a hard drive.

Meanwhile, Venture Capital Post said that the PS5 may "not only feature improvements in graphics but a unique design that has never been seen before."

The next-gen PlayStation console may be "very portable" that it can be carried around with much ease and may be of a similar size as a tablet.

"Think Samsung Note," the site compared.

"Users may expect a gestural interface. No longer will users need to push buttons because a quick wave or hand gesture would be enough to manipulate," the news portal continued. "The PlayStation 5 would even get more futuristic since it would be partnered with a Virtual Reality Headset. Sony console fanatics would enjoy a stepping-into-the-game experience."

There are also speculations on the future console's retail price, pegged at around $600.

Regarding the VR headset, it won't be a surprise if the PS5 will include a VR headset as Sony had unveiled one - called Project Morpheus - for the PS4 last year, although it was still in prototype form.

This year, however, Sony appeared to have improved Project Morpheus, as it now has better specs.

"Complete with a larger 5.7-inch OLED screen with 1920 x RGB x 1080 resolution. The field of view has been stretched to 100 degrees, and Project Morpheus now supports an impressive 120fps output (a new SDK will let 60fps images output at 120fps, too)," TechRadar said. "It now also supports 3D audio and has a new feature called social screen, which lets users take the same gameplay they see inside their Morpheus and put it on a TV so other people can play along."

Should things sail smoothly in Sony's waters, the VR headset may reportedly be out early in 2016.

With that, there's good reason to expect the PS5 to be Project Morpheus-compliant, although this is still not confirmed yet.
