The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, together with superstar Enrique Iglesias, announced today that they will be accepting scholarship applications from students who are admitted to Berklee College of Music, according to a statement released by the Grammy website. The deadline of application is said to be on April 10 this year and the scholarship will be awarded by Iglesias himself.
The chosen candidate will receive a maximum value of $200,000 school funds as support throughout his stay at Berklee until the student graduates, Fox News reported. And not only that, the scholarship program will help the grantee in transitioning from being a student to becoming a professional in the music industry.
The requirement of the said application, however, is that the student should be an Ibero-American, or natives from countries that were formerly colonies of Portugal and Spain. These countries would include Peru, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina. The foundation also noted that applications are available at the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation official website.
Enrique Iglesias is known to be supporting a number of foundations and has been involved with numerous charity works throughout his career. Like many other celebrities, he has devoted and used a part of his income in helping institutions that upholds his personal values. And many of those foundations are greatly related to environmental preservation and awareness. Iglesia's partnership with the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation is considered to be a big step for him since he will be able to help his fellow Latin American musicians pursue their dreams. During an interview, he mentioned that his collaboration with the foundation is very rewarding; thus, he promises that he will provide his full support to the program, Fox News reported.
"Not everyone gets to do what they love, and to be able to help someone achieve their goals is extremely gratifying", he added.
Furthermore, he noted that the foundation will be monitoring the lucky student who will be granted the scholarship program all throughout his or her student years at Berklee. Their goal, according to Manolo Diaz, Vice President of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, is to incorporate the student into the music industry as a professional, whether as an artist or a music professor.
