Will the next Microsoft Surface Pro laplet be able to take down Apple's MacBook Air and MacBook Pro and Dell's XPS 13?

Recent reports are saying that Microsoft would be releasing a new laplet which would challenge Apple's MacBook Air. It is indeed likely that the new Surface Pro 4 would be able to compete with the MacBook Air considering that Microsoft has even earlier released a video of specs battle between the Surface Pro 3 and MacBook Air. Watch it here:

In the video, we see that the Surface Pro 3 had an advantage over the MacBook Air since it has touchscreen feature and it functions both as a laptop and a tablet. The Surface Pro 3 is also thinner and lighter than the MacBook Air. The former even has a larger screen resolution than the latter.

Since the Surface Pro 4 will be newer, it is safe to say that it is expected to have some improvements from its predecessor. With all these to consider, we therefore see the next Surface Pro laplet to be as powerful as, if not more, than the MacBook Air.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4

Venture Capital Post reported that the next Surface Pro laplet would have a size of either 12 inch or 14 inch. It is also said to have a screen resolution of 2160 x 1440. It would also get a memory upgrade as its RAM would be at 16 GB, double of what its predecessor has. Plus it has a maximum of 1 TB of internal storage. It is said to use the fifth generation Intel Core processor which is called Broadwell. Note that the current Surface pro 3 has Haswell processors in it.

Better than MacBook Pro and Dell XPS 13?

Though it is still not confirmed if the incomplete details mentioned above are all true and whether a Surface Pro 4 is indeed coming, the International Business Times said that there is a possibility that the next laplet would also be competing with Apple's MacBook Pro and Dell's XPS 13.

Dell's new XPS 13, dubbed as "smallest 13-inch laptop on the planet" was unveiled during the Consumer Electronics Show last January. The new Dell laptop boasts of its 13.3-inch Touch display. It also has an improved resolution of 3200 x 1800. This resolution is incomparable to the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro's 2560×1600. It also has very tiny bezels which measure 5.2 mm on top and on the sides.

The new Dell laptop is powered by the latest fifth generation Intel Core i processors and is available in 4GB and 8GB variants. Dell also boasts of its new battery which could last up to 15 hours.

Meanwhile, MacBook Pro uses a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor and has an 8 GB of RAM. Its dimensions are 0.71 inch x 12.35 inches x 8.62 inches. It has a weight of 3.46 pounds.

We still don't know for sure whether the next Surface Pro 4 laplet would be better than these three laptops. Of course all of them are powerful, but we could definitely expect the next laplet to still at least compete with them.
