Dyana Ortelli will reportedly bring her acting chops to the comedy movie "Ana Maria in Novela Land."

Ortelli, who will star alongside lead actress Edy Ganem, will portray a straightforward and dignified maid named Mercedes. In an interview with Latin Heat, Ortelli revealed what it is like be a funny lady onscreen, and how her Mercedes role differs from other characters she's taken in the past.

"Well, first of all, 'Ana Maria in Novela Land' is a comedy so I got to have a lot of fun playing with my character. And Mercedes lives in make believe 'Novela Land,' so it was OK to be 'over-the-top' for once! I chose to play Mercedes very dignified and proper, as opposed to her being a sassy or raunchy maid," the actress told Latin Heat.

As expected in any telenovela plot, Mercedes is harboring a big secret which is yet to be revealed, the news outlet noted.

"Ana Maria is probably the first switcheroo movie with a Latino twist! It taps into the world of Spanish language telenovelas, which are much more dramatic and glamorous than general market soap operas," Ortelli explained, referring to the movie's nod to the identity switch element present in most films and TV shows.

She added, "We see Latino families spending family time together watching Spanish telenovelas, but approaching them very differently. And there's a perfect mix of Spanish and English being spoken, just like we see in multi-generational Latino families living in the U.S."

Ortelli also added that the motion picture captured her desire to work in it the moment she knew the late Elizabeth Peña and director Georgina Garcia Reidel are onboard in the project. Ganem and Luis Guzman are also an added bonus, Latin Heat wrote.

"Watching Elizabeth on the big screen, so vibrant and full of life, I still find it hard to believe that she is no longer with us," Ortelli told the news outlet. "It's kind of heartbreaking really. And her performance is so beautifully nuanced and pitch-perfect -- hitting all the right comedic and dramatic notes. Needless to say, I am very proud to be sharing the big screen with her on this project."

The flick, which is out in select theaters on February 27, stars Ganem as both Ana Maria, a typical young woman, and Ariana Tomosa, a telenovela superstar, Indie Wire reported. The two characters switch places by some magical occurrence, prompting them to learn how to live in each other's worlds.

The movie was set in Los Angeles and features dialogues mostly in English but "has Spanish sprinkled throughout," Fox News Latino noted.
