"Toy Story 4" could be an entirely different story from the plot Disney has introduced. This could also mean that the iconic characters Woody and Buzz will no longer be a part of the storyline, Inquisitr reported.

Jim Morris, Pixar's president, told Disney Latino that "Toy Story 4" will, in no way, be a sequel, as reported by Huffington Post.

"The third movie was over in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of [that] trilogy," Morris said (translation via Google).

"We are putting together a very nice story. It is not a continuation of the end of the story of 'Toy Story 3.' Temporarily it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not make much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie."

Somehow, this new direction is not a big surprise. Director John Lasseter, the director for the two other "Toy Story" films, revealed last year that he was excited with the "new direction" that the fourth Toy Story film is taking.

"'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie," said Lasseter via Huffington Post.

Lasseter also revealed that they are careful on choosing the characters who would go back to the film. In a statement last November he said, "We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before."

Last year, Walt Disney Co. Chief Bob Iger talked about this film when he was discussing the company's fourth quarter run, according to Variety.

He said that Rashida Jones and Will Cormack joined in the writers' crew and that Pixar is partnering with Galyn Susman in the production.

"Toy Story 3" premiered in 2013. The film alone earned about $1.1. billion in the box office. The "Toy Story" trilogy amassed to about $2 billion worldwide.

Meanwhile, Twitter fans are suggesting their own take for the "Toy Story 4" plot.

Dana Stevens tweeted: "Toy Story 4: Andy regrets giving up childhood toys, steals them back from Bonnie, becomes housebound middle-aged man who lives in the past."

Others are suggesting that they could still continue the Andy storyline.

"Some kids born the year the first Toy Story came out are sophomores in college, so, why not, let's have another one," said Richard Lawson.

"Toy Story 4" will be out on June 16, 2017.
