America Ferrera is known as one of the most famous Hispanic actresses in Hollywood. She won a Golden Globe for her work on "Ugly Betty" in 2007, which was adapted from the Colombian soap opera "Yo Soy Betty, La Fea." In the eight years since Ferrera bagged the best actress honor in the award giving body, only one other Latina received the same recognition - Gina Rodriguez of "Jane the Virgin," which is a show adapted from Venezuela's "Juana La Virgen."

Though many have celebrated Rodriguez's win, Ferrera thinks that her fellow Latina actress' award was bittersweet.

"I've known Gina for years now, and she is an incredibly warm, genuine and gifted person. I'm very, very happy for her," Ferrera told The Huffington Post. "[But] it's a little disheartening to know that there are only two of us."

The 30-year-old "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" star explained that the lack of Latina Golden Globe winners is Hollywood's failure to explore diversity across the U.S.

"The problem isn't in the awards," Ferrera explained, as quoted by the news outlet. "It's a creation of content issue. We need more in art and entertainment that is reflective of the world that we live in. And there's just not enough reflection in it for women, for people of color. There's still a huge amount of stories that have yet to be told, and we need those voices to find those platforms so that they can share those experiences."

She added, "As an audience member, I take it very personally, I take it extremely personally when I watch. I'm a huge lover of television and of film -- I have been my whole life -- and when there's too much of the same thing and not enough to reflect the world that I live in, I take it personally."

Aside from starring in "Ugly Betty" and in two "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" films, Ferrera also worked in the drama web series "Christine" and "The Good Wife." Huffington Post reported that the actress is also set to appear in her husband Ryan Piers Williams' sexually honest movie "X/Y," in which the long-term couple portrays a pair struggling with issues and intimacy.

When asked about the film's frank attitude towards sex, Ferrera explained that the story of "X/Y" aims to achieve the true meaning of intimacy, Cosmopolitan reported.

"Sex, in and of itself, is not intimacy," the actress told Cosmopolitan. "It can be intimate, but it doesn't always give you a connection with somebody, if that's what you're looking for. These characters -- whether it's a product of their current time, their generation, their culture, their status -- they're all looking for something that feels real."
