With the huge success of the "Despicable Me" movie franchise and the unprecedented popularity and demand for more of the Minions, it appears that Universal Pictures' money-making film series is posed to give Disney a run for its money where "Frozen" is concerned.

And with the upcoming prequel of a sequel, "Despicable Me 3: Minions," looming on the horizon, there are speculations on whether the animated flick will surpass "Frozen's" record-breaking box office performance.

With that, here are 5 things to look out for in "Despicable Me 3" that can make it likely to be as good, or even better, than the Disney flick.

Minions and More Minions

Those wishing to see a movie starring only the Minions so you could have more of their funny antics and yellow cuteness, part three is the film for you. This is because the story revolves around the origins of Gru's beloved sidekicks.

"'Minions' will be a prequel story, setting up the fact that these yellow henchmen have been around since the dawn of time," ScreenCrush said. "Co-directors Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda have come up with a standalone story for the Minions that will exist separate from the plotline developed by the two 'Despicable' movies to date."

As such, Gru will be nowhere in sight, so all you see are the Minions in all their hilarity, plus the baddie in the story, of course.

A Meaner, More High-Tech Villain

According to Chris Meledandri, Illumination Entertainment's head of animation, the Minions will be facing Scarlet Overkill, a villain who "has fantastic hair, wears great clothes and has a lethal uppercut."

"Scarlet has all the gadgetry and accoutrements of villainy," Meledandri went on to say, as quoted by Crossmap. "When we turn her loose on the world, she is going to come out standing on top."

"Scarlet is an unusual super villain. She is a dangerously charming woman, which could not have been easy in the late 1960s," added "Despicable 3" co-director Pierre Coffin.

Here's a tidbit that will clue you in on how scary this new baddie really is: her own husband is so scared of her he "took on her surname than his."

Sandra Bullock's Comic Chops

The "Gravity" actress is expected to give the movie the star power it needs in the absence of Steve Carell. She has signed on to play Scarlet, which should boost the flick's funny factor to stratospheric levels. Her inclusion in the project may push box office sales to record-breaking levels, considering her cinematic drawing power. It's worth noting that the comedies she's starred in have mostly gone on to become blockbuster hits, which is why there's a big chance "Despicable Me 3" may topple "Frozen" off the top.

A Trip Down History Lane

This animated showcase will touch on various points in history as the Minions have served "various evil masters at different stages of our planet's history," as ScreenRant said. One of the movie's trailers have shown the yellow henchmen blunder their way through the dinosaur age, Napoleon's era, and even Dracula's timeline. The variety of settings widens this film's scope and appeal to people of various ages.

Humor Overload - Minion Style

Although Minion language is unintelligible, Gru's helpers are no less funny and relatable. Judging by the plot details and the trailers, it looks like this movie was made to serve as the Minions' playground, where we can observe them in action without interruption and laugh along to our heart's content. Expect to see many gags that only the Minions can pull off with such aplomb and leave you in stitches.
