The Samsung Galaxy S6 rumor mill retires today, as the South Korean tech company's flagship phone has finally been unveiled Sunday. To make the event a real one-two punch, Samsung tossed in the Galaxy S6 Edge to the launch for good measure.

"The Galaxy S6 Edge borrows heavily from the Galaxy Note Edge, which came out last fall and had a curve on just one side," Mashable noted. "But where the Note had a versatile side screen that doubled as an app launcher, news scroll and occasional ruler, the S6 version is more limited: The curves are mainly a design ornament, and there are no 'panels' to swipe through."

The good thing about the curved edges is that they can let you access the recent contacts list and be alerted to calls (and know who's calling) even when the phone is face-down as the sides will light when a call comes in.

One of the most notable aspects of both phones is their design, prompting Time to call the S6 Samsung's "best-looking smartphone yet."

"The S6 is handsome. A smooth metal frame is sandwiched between two pieces of the latest and toughest Gorilla Glass 4. The back is surprisingly grippy for glass," the news source observed. "With the Galaxy S6, plenty has been sacrificed in the name of design. Gone is the removable back cover and with it the replaceable battery."

"The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the most beautiful phone to ever exist in Samsung's S series - and possibly its entire smartphone lineup," Mashable affirmed. "Although the metal rim certainly evokes the same design language as Apple's latest iPhones, there's no question it's a great choice, and the subtle edging actually makes it grippier than the iPhone 6."

Both phones have a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen, as well as Quad HD resolution (2,560 x 1,440). Screen resolution is at a crisp 577 pixels per inch (PPI).

"The battery for both phones lasts for up to 12 hours on Wi-Fi and charges 'faster than any other smartphone in the industry,'" Forbes said, quoting JK Shin, Samsung's CEO.

A mere 10 minutes of charging earns 4 hours of battery life for the S6. "To get to 100%, it takes the S6 roughly half the time of the iPhone 6 to charge," the finance and business news source added. The new models can be wirelessly charged, too.

In addition, the S6 has a 16MP sensor for its camera and a fast-launching feature that reportedly takes only 0.7 seconds for the camera to launch. The gadget's camera also is equipped with optical image stabilization, "a feature that helps you get better shots in the dark," according to Time.

"Selfie-lovers are well catered-for too, with a five-megapixel front-facing camera," the publication said.

The devices have fingerprint scanning and menus that "no long pepper you with too many options, and there's a simple manager tool to let you keep track of which apps are hogging RAM or draining your battery," Mashable added.

While pricing has not yet been announced, it's anticipated that the S6 Edge may cost more than the S6.
