The World Boxing Council is making a new grand belt for the winner of the mega-bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Bleacher Report wrote that Mauricio Sulaiman, WBC President, announced that the victor of the fight will be awarded a special belt to commemorate the biggest fight in the history of boxing yet.

On WBCBoxing.com, Sulaiman stated on February 25: "For this special recognition I would like to have emeralds or platinum, but everything will be defined during the next weeks. This is because of the magnitude of the event, which will be broadcast via TV networks globally.

"It came in a good moment and it will be an emotive event. Both are obviously putting their legacy at stake, to prove who's the best, satisfying an enormous created expectance. They are also competing to be considered one of the best 10 fighters in the entire boxing history."

Washington Post wrote that the WBC is one of four major boxing organizations that award sanctioned championship belts, the others being WBO, WBA and IBF. Mayweather currently holds that WBC and WBA titles while Pacquiao holds the WBO belt. There are 111 belts divided over 17 weight classes. Boxers actually achieve more by winning crowns, instead of belts. Pacquiao will make history if he wins the bout and will be the first boxer ever to hold five crowns. Previously, Pacquiao held the flyweight, featherweight, junior lightweight and junior welterweight crowns. Mayweather won the welterweight crown.

Mauricio also commented about the high ticket prices on the WBC official site. He stated, "It is a big shame that tickets are staying with wealthy people. However, boxing fans will have the opportunity to watch the fight via TV. Economic interests are involved with resulting high prices."

Boxing News 24 wrote that the fight is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime event and that the last big fight that had the same hype happened on March 8, 1971, featuring Muhammad Ali versus Joe Frazier. Boxing has changed a lot in the past several years and there are already five world titles in every division. As a result, there are multiple champions per division who rarely fight each other in the ring. It may take another half century before a fight of the same magnitude happens again.

For boxing fans to predict who will most likely take home the special WBC belt, Bleacher Report also presented an early "Tale of the Tape". Mayweather is 37 years old with a 47-0 record, stands at 5'8" and has an arm reach of 72 inches. Pacquiao is 36 years old with a 57-5-2 record, stands at 5'6 ½" and has an arm reach of 67 inches.
