No official release date has been announced for Android Lollipop 5.1 just yet, but the rumor mill said that the upcoming mobile OS version may be out in March, as noted by Phone Arena.

Till then, we'll continue to nitpick over the features of the Lollipop update.

Many things have been said about Lollipop 5.1, with a good number of them stemming from speculations. Based on all that's been said about the said update, these are the top ones.

UI Shortcuts

5.1 will enable you to "swipe to get rid of the Quick settings menu and unlock the device" and even a new Wi-Fi toggle feature, GottaBeMobile said.

"Users will have the ability to switch to different Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections right from the notification area - there are small arrows present under the icons of each connectivity option - pressing one will present a list of available connections to switch to," Phone Arena added.

The site also said that "both the Invert Colors and Wi-Fi Hotspot toggles will be easily removable in the next iteration of Android" to customize the UI.

Improved RAM & System Stability

Not very long after Android Lollipop was released, reports of memory leaks emerged. Tech Times said that some users noticed affected devices "were eating up more than 1.2GB of RAM even though the normal usage is 500MB."

Thankfully, this issue will be addressed in the update as it is designed to improve RAM management, as well as provide "fixes for sudden app closures" and "improvements in system stability."

Better Battery Management

Forbes noted back in November last year that Android Lollipop "is dramatically impacting battery life."

This did not escape Google's attention. Lollipop 5.1. will address this issue.

Silent Mode - The Comeback

"Silent mode was butchered for no apparent reason, when this was a feature that came very handy in plenty of contexts and instead was replaced by a priority mode that just didn't cut it," said XDA Developers of one of the glitches that came with Lollipop.

Fortunately, 5.1 will reinstate the popular and in-demand silent mode.

Further Material Design Tweaks

"Material Design - Google's new UI ideology, which aims to turn everything flat, and guide the user with intricate use of shadows and animations - may be getting a graphical refinement, for some more visual feedback of users' actions," Phone Arena said.

These are not the only features associated with Lollipop 5.1. Other improvements are reportedly to come, the details of which we'll know once the new version finally rolls out.
