Some devices have already been rumored to be running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, but when will it be issued to Motorola devices?

At the start of February, Tech Radar said that owners of the second generation Motorola Moto G (2014) may receive the Lollipop update soon.

"The update, which is actually Android 5.0.2, is pretty identical to the standard unmodified version of Android, which is good news if you're not a fan of unnecessary apps that some manufacturers like to preinstall," the site said.

Then, earlier this week, Master Herald said that Google Nexus devices will be the first to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, and that some Motorola models may get that same version soon afterwards.

"Google's latest update to the Android, the Android 5.1 Lollipop, will quietly roll out to the Nexus 5, the Nexus 6, and the Nexus 9 anytime now," the site informed. "It is very likely that Motorola will also be rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop to its other key devices like the Moto E and the Moto X very soon."

"Nexus handsets typically get the latest versions of Android before other devices, so it's not out of the realms of possibility that there's a Nexus out there running a fresh version of Android," another Tech Radar report said.

Previously, it was believed that Motorola had received Lollipop 5.1 because a photo leaked by Tech-Droider revealed "the Motorola Moto G 2014 running on an Android Lollipop 5.1 OS," The Latino Post explained.

"The photo indicated a builder number 'LXY22E' with an update date of Feb. 2," the news portal added.

Meanwhile, HTC VP of Product Management Mo Versi said that the Lollipop update will be coming in March.

"What this also means is that HTC's flagship devices will likely get updated with the next version of Lollipop in quite a timely manner," Phone Arena speculated. "Of course, we should not entirely rule out that Versi is talking about a small bug-fixing Android release and not Android 5.1, but given the amount of leaks about Android 5.1, we are inclined to believe that the latter will be making the rounds sometime next month."

Could this imply that Motorola will be getting the next OS iteration next month too? Right now, Google has still not confirmed or announce anything about Lollipop 5.1.

Android 5.1 Lollipop is seen as an important fix to the glitches that Android Lollipop brought, as noted in XDA Developers' piece on the said update.
