Will the third generation of the Motorola Moto G be the "best budget smartphone" - as Forbes speculated - this year? Based on the leaked specs, it looks like the device might just as well be that.

According to Air Herald, the upcoming iteration will be priced at around $200, making it "one of the best Android phones you can buy at its price point."

"It will have a 5-inch, 720p screen, giving it a PPI of 294," the site went on to reveal. It will also be equipped with version 5.0 of Android Lollipop, a Snapdragon 400 processor, and 1GB of RAM.

"Storage wise, there is only one option, 16 GB. It does take microSD cards up to 32 GB which means you can easily add more storage if you like," Air Herald said. "The Moto G still has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera."

Forbes also reported that specs for a handset named "Motorola TBD" - presumably referring to Moto G 2015 - include "a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and 1 GB of RAM."

The best aspect of the 3rd generation Moto G reportedly is its 4G LTE capabilities, although there is a concern whether the handset's battery life can adequately handle such a specification.

Meanwhile, International Business Times said that the rumored Moto G 2015 will have a "5in display with 720x1280 pixels resolution; enclosed within Gorilla Glass 3, Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating platform, 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, Dual SIM-card support, 16GB internal storage, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and micro USB connectivity, and 2390 mAh battery."

It can be recalled that the 2nd generation Moto G, released last year, had a 2070 mAh battery, so the 2390 mAh spec is an obvious improvement.

Forbes noted that Motorola observed a 7-month gap in releasing the previous Moto Gs.

"If Motorola were to follow that same plan, then this version of the Moto G wouldn't be expected until late March 2015," the news source speculated.

The Moto G series is the best-selling smartphone from Motorola. Judging by the success of the second generation Moto G, there's good reason to expect this year's iteration to become a hit, as well. This is especially considering that this unit will be the first one backed by Lenovo.

"If the new handsets can gather sales to match the first handsets, that will provide a clear statement of intent on the future direction of Motorola in the hands of Lenovo," Forbes concluded.
