Following his strong performance at Wednesday's presidential debate in Denver, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is enjoying a surge of popularity among voters and shows the first signs of improvement.

However Romney's apparent policy shifts have some Democrats claiming he only did to conceal his real views and attract more moderate voters to the Republican ticket.

Despite not touching upon these issues during the debate, Latinos Post took a look where the GOP candidate stands on the issues of gun control, birth control and gay rights. To see where Romney stands on abortion, education and taxes, click here.

Gun Control

Like many of his fellow Republicans, Romney states he is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment allowing Americans the right to bear arms.

According to his website, "Mitt does not believe that the United States needs additional laws that restrict the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. He believes in the safe and responsible ownership and use of firearms and the right to lawfully manufacture and sell firearms and ammunition."

However, Romney has not always been against gun control. Back in 1994, during his Senate campaign, Romney told reporters that he "didn't line up with the NRA" and championed the Brandy Bill and a ban on some assault weapons, reported Political. That began to change in 2006 when Romney signed up for a lifetime membership with the NRA.

Birth Control

It's no secret that Romney is pro-life and is regularly seen as against reproductive rights of women. While the GOP candidate has not set a definite policy against or for birth control, he has stated that he would end federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which apart from providing abortions to women, also provides birth control for women around the nation. Romney has also voiced his disapproval of the Affordable Care Act, which provides women with many women's preventive services.

Gay Rights

Unlike Obama, who has declared his support for gay rights, Romney has voiced his opposition to gay rights when it comes to gay marriage.

According to his website, Romney believes, "Marriage is more than a personally rewarding social custom. It is also critical for the well-being of a civilization. That is why it is so important to preserve traditional marriage-the joining together of one man and one woman. As president, Mitt will not only appoint an Attorney General who will defend the Defense of Marriage Act-a bipartisan law passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton-but he will also champion a Federal Marriage Amendment to the Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman."

The Republican candidate also opposes civil unions but has said that he will not restore a ban on openly gay military members.
