It was confirmed in November last year that an "Independence Day 2" will be made. And now, reports have it that "The Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth has been offered a leading role in the said sequel.

TheWrap's sources have told the news outlet that the actor has been wooed for the leading part in the film, which will reportedly be called "ID Forever."

When asked to confirm this development, 20th Century Fox's representative chose not to comment.

"Roland Emmerich is directing the sequel, in which Michael B. Jordan has also been rumored for a role," the site said further. "Fox hired Carter Blanchard ("Glimmer") to rewrite the script. James Vanderbilt wrote the first draft of the film, which Emmerich is producing with Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser."

Meanwhile, ComingSoon reported that Will Smith won't be back for the sequel, although Jeff Goldbum and Bill Pullman will return to reprise their roles in the film, which went on to earn a whopping $817.4 million at the global box office.

"Set to hit theaters June 24, 2016 (almost exactly 20 years after the original), 'Independence Day 2' is looking to begin production in May," the entertainment news portal said. "The original 'Independence Day' opened on July 3, 1996."

Right now, very little is known about "ID Forever," which may be down to the fact that the project is still in its early stages.

"The last bit of news that we heard was last year when 20th Century Fox hired a scriptwriter named Carter Blanchard to re-write the script originally drafted by The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 scribe, James Vanderbilt. What elements will remain from the original Vanderbilt script are still a mystery," CinemaBlend said.

With that being said, will Liam say yes to this project? If the sequel turns out to be a big hit, it's possible that there will be yet another iteration of the flick. Since the Aussie actor is just about done with his involvement in "The Hunger Games" franchise, it looks like it's about time that he jumped into yet another movie franchise. Or is he done with franchises?

"Hemsworth can next be seen in Kieran Darcy-Smith's 'By Way of Helena,' reteaming with 'Hunger Games' franchise co-star Woody Harrelson," ComingSoon said. "He'll follow that with a role opposite Kate Winslet and Sarah Snook in Jocelyn Moorhouse's 'The Dressmaker' before returning to Panem for one last time in 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2,' hitting theaters on November 20.

What do you think of Liam starring in this film?
