Celebrities are not spared from the mischief of hackers, and music superstar Taylor Swift is apparently not immune to their shenanigans. Reports have it that the "Shake It Off" singer's Instagram and Twitter accounts have been breached. The latter social media account had since been used to tag users @Veriuser and @Lizzard in a bid to get her fans to follow them, Mashable said.

"Taylor Swift's Twitter and Instagram accounts were hacked Tuesday, with the perpetrators reportedly sending out a handful of tweets to the pop star's over 51 million followers that were quickly deleted," Rolling Stone noted. "Swift is the owner of the fourth largest Twitter account, making this breach one of the biggest in Twitter's history."

Thankfully for Swifty, the damage was considered "minimal" as the hackers' tweets merely encouraged her followers to follow certain users. Rolling Stone further noted that @Veriuser had "claimed to be the leader of the responsible hacking group, Lizard Squad (the latter account has been suspended)."

Twitter hacks have become quite a common occurrence, earning the site the ire of users, especially "following a number of major account hacks, from the Associated Press to musicians like the Flaming Lips, No Doubt, Rise Against and Nicole Scherzinger."

Taylor has since responded to the hacking after she was able to regain control of her social media accounts. The hackers had previously "threatened to post naked photos of the singer" in exchange for about 3 bitcoins, which is equivalent to about $800, MailOnline said. The "1989" artist replied that she had none of those.

"PS any hackers saying they have 'nudes'? Psssh you'd love that wouldn't you! Have fun photoshopping cause you got NOTHING," her most recent tweet read.

Tay's Hawaiian holiday had been disrupted by the said hacking, which was brought to her attention via a text message from a friend and fellow celebrity Twitter user, Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams.

According to the British publication, the singer then alerted her fans to the incident through her Tumblr page. The following is her statement about the hack:

"Well, now I'm awake. My Twitter got hacked but don't worry, Twitter is deleting the hacker tweets and locking my account until they can figure out how this happened and get me new passwords. Never a dull moment."

On Instagram, Taylor expressed her fear of technology, saying she's becoming "paranoid" about it, MailOnline noted.

Meanwhile, The Verge observed that the hackers were "not high tech," judging by the minimal damage inflicted on Taylor's social media accounts.
