With limited information available about the iPad Mini line's fourth successor, gadget enthusiasts have been looking forward to what news comes up, rumors or not. And now, speculations have it the iPad Mini 4 will be sporting a new processor, Customs Today reported.

Apple's iPad Mini 3 only came out in October last year, but a successor is already in the works, especially after the lackluster reception of the third. If reports are to be believed, Apple also seems to be on a quest to try and improve the iPad Mini line by filling the next-generation tablet with the best and most topnotch specs they can.

One of the improvements to the iPad Mini 4 that Apple's allegedly planning is giving it the A8X processor -- currently sported by the iPad Air 2 -- with other reports claiming that the next iPad Mini 4 will also follow the Air 2's look and thinner design.

Other details about the specs and features are all still rumors, such as a 12.2-inch display, similar to the Air 2, dual speakers at the top and bottom, an Adrena 420 chipset, 2GB RAM, and operating on either the iOS 8 or iOS 9. It's also said to come with a 1.2MP front camera, an 8mp rear camera, internal memory of 16GB, 64Gb or 128GB and may sport a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, according to Christian Today.

Also, most reports speculate that two of the iPad Mini models, the original and the Mini 3, will end up being discontinued. The iPad Mini 2 will then end up being the only affordable option for consumers, which isn't really surprising considering how long it managed to stay on the market, according to Mac World.

With the lack of iPad Mini models, the iPad Mini 4 should be good enough, if not better, than its predecessors in order to provide the same functions and beyond.

As for the release date, most were probably under the impression that it would take another year before Apple comes out with the iPad Mini 4. Reports that have appeared claim that's not the case as the iPad Mini 4 could be out as early as April or June this year, and may even be released alongside the iPad Pro.

Apple has been keeping silent and neither confirming nor denying the rumors. It isn't really unusual for the company as it prefers unveiling products in its entirety or through launch events. For now, interested consumers will have to wait until the company is ready to make any official announcements.
