How would Jamie Dornan's role in the upcoming movie "Fifty Shades of Grey" affect his career?

According to the recent report of the British news website The Telegraph, some commentators have warned that his role in the movie could hurt his career before it even hits its peak.

The report cited film critic Richard Fitzwilliams who claimed that accepting the movie's lead role means you are taking "one hell of a risk."

"The moment you involve yourself in controversy and chit-chat of that sort, you're taking the risk of cheapening your career, unless by some miracle the page is transformed into brilliant celluloid...Anyone who has anything to do with this film knows they are taking on something that, because of its reputation, could earn them big bucks. But Dornan is gambling with his career because if you're not properly established, you may not have a serious career afterwards," he was quoted as saying.

These warnings about Dornan's career came after the 32-year old Irish actor garnered praises for his role as Paul Spector in the crime drama TV series "The Fall." If the movie turns out to be a success, then Dornan could eventually see himself stucked in doing "bits and pieces," The Telegraph quotes Fitzwilliams. He also said that when the movie turns out to be "ghastly," then eventually some would not take him seriously.

On the other hand, film enthusiast Robbi Collin sees a different thing, claiming that not all films that flopped in the past have ruined every actor's career. He cited the case of the veteran actor George Clooney.

"Batman was a huge flop and Clooney was bad in it," said Collin. "But since then he has gone on to become the closest thing we have to Cary Grant. It hasn't hurt his career at all...You can use these terrible roles as a springboard," Collin was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

Earlier, we saw Dornan defending the upcoming erotic romance movie. He said in a recent interview that the film has a lot to offer and that its love story is more important than its BDSM aspect.

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie is based on the book series written by E.L. James. According to the movie's official website, the book is considered as "one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever." The trilogy was even translated into more than 50 languages worldwide.

The movie tells the love story of college student Anastasia Steele and handsome young businessman Christian Grey. Dornan plays the role of Christian Grey while Dakota Johnson plays the role of Anastasia Steele.
