Why are the members of One Direction traveling separately?

A recent report has it that the boys of 1D, while still "traveling in One Direction," were esconced in separate vehicles as they do so. They were headed for the BBC Music Awards.

Is this a sign that there's trouble in their world?

"It was the latest indication that the guys are less eager to hang out together than they once were - amid constant rumours that some members could be making plans for new careers post-1D," Mirror speculated. "The five each hurried off to hang out alone after being ushered into the back entrance of Earls Court Arena ahead of Thursday's ceremony."

"An hour later they all hopped back into their five separate cabs to travel to a media commitment nearby, before being ferried back - again in convoy - for their stage performance at the show," the news source continued.

Is this a bid to keep the boys from bickering with each other or plotting their split?

This is not the first time that Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik travelled separately.

"One Direction were seen leaving a festival in May on chartered planes - two separate planes, members dividing between," The Guardian observed. "Some industry people I spoke to off-record insisted there were serious personal divisions."

"The lads were also spotted travelling in separate groups during their South American tour earlier this year, which included visits to Columbia, Brazil and Ecuador," Mirror said.

The boys have gone on to explain that the unusual travel arrangement is actually part of their security measures.

"I think that's more a security thing than anything else. If we're spread out, no one can target one car," Liam revealed to The Guardian.

That could be a plausible reason. However, this has not done much to deflect persistent rumors about One Direction splitting up.

Speaking of splits, last month, the band had parted ways with tour manager Paul Higgins, who had been with them for a long time.

"There have been issues behind the scenes for a while, and they've finally come to a head leading to Paul's relationship with the band coming to an end," an insider was quoted by Just Jared as saying. "In many ways he has completely run the show while they've been on tour - they even call him Daddy. He became a friend as well as a key part of their management set-up."

Was he supportive of the idea of the boys going their separate ways? We could only continue to speculate.
