The iPhone 5 has been out for over 24 hours across nine countries, and many of the customers are now witnessing the similarities and differences when compared to the iPhone 4S.

For many Apple fans, however, they are still waiting for their smartphone to arrive due to preorder delays or awaiting the long lines to ease at nearby Apple Stores.

But what are the differences between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S?

There are subtle differences than what Apple might be promoting, but some may be worth the price.

Screen:

One of the most talked about differences between the iPhones are the screens. Both still have the Retina Display but see a difference in screen size and resolution. The iPhone 4S screen measures at 3.5-inches, while the iPhone 5 will see an increase of 0.5-inches to 4-inches. The resolution also increases from 960x640 to 1,136x640.

Camera:

The rear-facing camera for the iPhone 5 is no different compared to its predecessor. The rear-facing camera will maintain its eight-megapixels with iSight. You'll be able to record videos in HD with 1080p and now 30 frames per second with LED flash and autofocus.

The new feature in the iPhone 5's camera specs is the FaceTime HD camera with 1.2-megapixels and 720p also using 30 frames per second.

iOS:

The mobile operating system (OS) for the iPhone 5 is the new iOS 6. The iPhone 4S was sold with either iOS 5 or 5.1 versions. The new iOS 6 was released two days before the iPhone 5's release in the US and is also compatible for the iPhone 4S.

Networks:
Another new feature for the iPhone 5 is the 4G LTE. The addition of the network is a plus for AT&T and Verizon carriers as they continue to add and rival each other for the most 4G coverage across the US. The iPhone 4S is available in 2G and 3G, although the iPhone 5 does offer 3G as well.

Battery:

The battery is a concern when it comes to the added 4G LTE in the iPhone 5. For the iPhone 4S, talk time last up to eight hours, Internet time last up to six hours, and standby up to 200 hours. The iPhone 5's talk time will remain the same at eight hours, internet time increases to 10 hours, and standby has 25 additional hours to 225 hours.

The iPhone 5 also features a battery capacity (mAh) of 1,140mAh, compared to the iPhone 4S is 10mAh higher than the iPhone 4S. According to Webopedia, the higher the mAh, then the device will be "stronger" and "healthier,"

Wireless Connectivity:
The iPhone 5 includes Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology and Wi-Fi, although it is the same Bluetooth wireless technology as the iPhone 4S.

EarPods:

A free addition when purchasing the iPhone 5 is the EarPods, Apple's newest headphones. The EarPods have reportedly been in development for the last three years with remote and mic.

Price and Carriers:

The iPhone 5 will be sold at the same price as the iPhone 4S when it launched. The device will go for $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB when signing a contract with AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint.
