The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the several northeastern states and severe thunderstorm warnings.
The tornado watch was expected to expire at 7 p.m. ET but has been extended to 9 p.m. instead for the five boroughs of New York City, and the New Jersey counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union.

The severe thunderstorm warning is expected to end at 7:45 p.m. ET. The storm warnings and watches extend from Pennsylvania to Connecticut.
The National Weather Service stated, "A strong but slow moving cold front will cross the region later tonight. High pressure will then build in from the north for Wednesday through Friday. Another cold front looks to push through our region late in the day on Saturday with another area of high pressure building in behind it for the early part of next week."
