Dick Clark Award for Excellence - Taylor Swift

The biggest winners of the night were One Direction and Katy Perry, who won three awards each. Liam Payne of 1D said onstage as they accepted their first award, "This has been a real perfect day ... America feels like a second home to us."

Unfortunately, the second big winner, Katy Perry, was absent during the awards. She is currently on tour in Australia and cannot make it to the show.

However, MSN noted that there are other big stars worth celebrating, one of which is the newcomer, Iggy Azalea, who won favorite album for "The New Classic," besting rap stars Eminem and Drake.

The 24-year-old was all smiles, saying, "This award is the first award I've ever won in my entire life, and it means so much to me that it is for best hip-hop because that's what inspired me to move to America and pursue my dreams, and it's what helped me when I was a teenager to escape and to get through my life and to better times. And it means so much that I can stand here against Eminem and Drake and come out with this."

Taylor Swift who kicked off the event, also won the first ever Dick Clark Award for Excellence, which was presented to her by Diana Ross. In her speech, she justified her fight against streaming service, Spotify, saying, "To the fans who went out and bought over a million copies of my last three albums, what you did by going out and investing in music and albums is you're saying you believe in the same thing I believe in - that music is valuable and that music should be consumed in albums and albums should be consumed as art and appreciated."

Are you happy of the results of the AMAs?
