The Force will awaken this Thanksgiving as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" teaser trailer will debut. Unlike many films that release their trailers online, Star Wars remain loyal to its tradition, making sure that it is seen on big screen events.
In a report by USA Today, Eric Geller of TheForce.net said, "Star Wars is meant to be watched on the biggest screen you can find. Combine the improved visual and auditory experience with the community aspect of attending with your friends specifically for this trailer, and you get a recipe for good memories. Never underestimate the power of getting pumped up about seeing new Star Wars content in a movie theater."
According to Slash Film, the first teaser for Episode 7 "will be shown in a limited number of theaters during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend."
Director JJ Abrams confirmed the news via Twitter, posting, "THANKSGIVING" via Bad Robot Productions handle. He also included a handwritten card, hinting that the trailer will be 88 seconds long.
Also, according to a source from Reddit, participating theaters which will show the trailer on Thanksgiving are ready to do so at every movie over the weekend, and at every show time, which means that every movie-goer over the weekend will be able to watch.
However, despite the fact that the "Star Wars" trailer is an event in itself, Mike Ryan of Screen Crush, in the same USA Today report, doubts that it is enough to increase box office sales, saying, "I'm sure those early morning screenings will be quite popular this Friday, but it's at so few theaters, I can't imagine how it will make any kind of substantial dent."
As for those who can't watch the trailer at any of the limited theaters, Geller thinks that it will appear online as early as the Monday after Thanksgiving, saying that, "The only reason not to also put it online next Monday is to goose theatrical attendance. The 'limited' aspect will have disappeared - every theater will have it. At that point, the lack of an official upload will seem more like a stick in the eye of fans."
