Former San Francisco Giants Pablo Sandoval is moving to the Boston Red Sox.

In an ESPN report, Sandoval's agent, Gustavo Vasquez, confirmed that the third baseman has agreed to play with the Red Sox for five years and a contract was meted out, valued at $100 million. Reportedly, Sandoval had the option of staying with the Giants or transferring to either the San Diego Padres or Boston. All three offers were said to be worth at least $90 million and spanning five years.

In a report by ESPN, Vasquez said to The Associated Press, "Yes, we have an agreement with the Red Sox and we're on our way to Boston."

Bobby Evans, Giants assistant general manager, said in the same Associated Press report on November 24, "Got the call. He is going to the Red Sox."

Bleacher Report wrote that Sandoval has been an asset to the Giants as the MLB team won its third World Series title over a period of five years. In the two previous postseasons, Sandoval had 50 hits, had a batting average of .360 and 21 runs. He had 26 hits in 2014, which set a new record.

The Giants said in a statement, "He has been with us through some of the greatest moments in San Francisco Giants history -- including all three World Series championships. We will never forget his World Series MVP performance in 2012 and his numerous contributions to the 2014 championship. His connection with Giants fans -- young and old -- is truly special, and he will be greatly missed. We wish him nothing but the best in Boston."

On November 24, Sandoval took to Instagram to confirm the transfer news and bid his San Francisco fans farewell. He posted, "To the greatest fans in San Francisco! Leaving the #SFGiants & this city I love is the most difficult decision I have ever made. I have grown up w/you, laughed & cried w/you & you have blessed me w your support, friendship & love. It has been an unforgettable @SFGiants career, a great run & 3 World Series championships in 5 yrs w/great teammates, coaches, front office & fans. I will always remember you w love & my heart will always be in #SF."

NY Times reported that with Sandoval playing in third base, Hanley Ramirez will be forced as an outfielder. On the other hand, The Associated Press reported that the Giants will likely set their sights on Chase Headley to replace Sandoval.
