"In any display, there are pixels," said Jobs, who showed an image four square boxes representing pixels. "We start off with the Retina Display by dramatically increasing the pixel density - four times as many pixels in the same amount of space."
Jobs said with Retina Display there is better precision and "really, really sharp text."
The Retina Display first premiered on the iPhone 4S in 2011. The iPhone 4's Retina Display featured 960x640 resolution, four times the number of pixels as the iPhone 4. For the iPhone 5, it features a resolution of 1136x640. Other Apple products with Retina Display include the iPad 3 and the 15-inch MacBook Pro notebooks.
According to Webopedia, Apple's Retina Display refers to devices with a resolution and pixel density "so high" at approximately 300 or more pixels per inch (ppi). The iPhone 4S had 326 ppi.
Jobs added, "There's never been a display like this on a phone, people haven't even dreamed about a display like this on a phone."
However, Samsung might have been the one to dream about it too with the HD Super AMOLED display.
According to Samsung, the HD Super AMOLED screen will provide, "breathtaking visuals and crystal clear detail."
The first device to use the HD Super AMOLED display was Samsung's Galaxy Note, using 1280x800 resolution. OLED-Info.com defined it as a HD display of at least 1280x720 or more, and for the Galaxy S3, it has exactly 1,280x720 in a 4.8-inch screen, more than the iPhone 5.
Other devices that include the Super AMOLED screen include Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S, and Galaxy S2.
