The iPhone 5's high anticipation and projected record sales might be on the right road as AT&T announced that it set record sales this past weekend with preorders for the iPhone 5.

As Latinos Post reported, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster reported that six million to 10 million iPhone 5 units will be sold in the remaining weeks of September.

According to AT&T today, "Customers ordered more iPhones from AT&T than any previous model both on its first day of preorders and over the weekend."

AT&T also touted its advantages over rival mobile carriers selling the iPhone 5: Sprint and Verizon.

AT&T noted it has the largest 4G Network, offering customers "blazing-fast speeds" covering 275 million people, flexible rate plans, and it doesn't force customers to switch data plans.

Their success continues the good partnership between Apple and AT&T and AT&T was the original and exclusive carrier for the first iPhone device in summer 2007.

The news is also good as analysts projected that Verizon would see an advantage with the iPhone 5.

Jeffries & Co.'s telecom analyst Thomas Seitz stated that Verizon is ready to take advantage of the iPhone 5's new 4G LTE capabilities as their 4G network covers 75 percent of the company's 375 markets, slightly more than what AT&T has to offer.

The FaceTime feature on the iPhone 5 is another advantage for Verizon which will offer the video calling program on any data plan, unlike AT&T, who'll offer it under a shared data plan.

AT&T did not release a specific amount of units sold but according to Information Week two million people placed an order for Apple's newest smartphone in its first 24 hours via Apple.com.

A&T also confirmed it will sell the iPhone 5 in retail stores this Friday at 8 a.m. local time.
